My horrible bed bug experience and a proven way to get rid of them

I have a pretty demanding job and travel all across the Midwest for work. One night last August I stayed in a budget hotel in a small town in rural Iowa. It was the last night of this trip and I couldn’t have been more excited to get back to my family. More importantly, I couldn’t wait to get back into my own comfortable bed.

I woke up the next morning with a couple of itchy red bites. I didn’t think much of it and assumed they were from mosquitoes because it was a hot summer night.

The thought of bed bugs didn’t even cross my mind.

I drove home and did my usual routine of throwing my bag on the bed before going to sleep with my wife.

Bed bug infestation

Bed bug infestation

You can imagine the horror when my wife and I woke up the next day covered in red bites.

Not just a few this time, 2 near parallel lines going down my left arm. My wife had the same pattern along her shoulders. After splashing cold water over myself and some frantic online research, and after inspecting my bed to find brown stains, I then found out the shocking truth – I had bed bugs I put 2 and 2 together and figured the bugs must’ve hitchhiked with me from the hotel by latching onto my clothes and bag.

It was that easy.

I didn’t even know this was possible until after researching the subject and discovering that you can also pick them up from movie theaters and riding the subway.

I was beyond embarrassed, and honestly, I felt downright ashamed. I thought only people living in dirty houses with old beaten up furniture got bed bugs. I couldn’t believe I’d done this to our family home that we’d only moved into the year before.

And what if my friends found out, would I suddenly become a pariah who wasn’t invited to anyone’s house?

Now, there are a number of ways to kill bed bugs – some more effective than others.

You can wash your clothes and sheets using the hottest setting on your machine. But this might not completely kill the bugs, and could potentially damage your clothes. The other drawback being you can’t exactly wash a mattress in your standard household washer/dryer.

Another proven effective option is to call an exterminator. These companies will come to your house and provide an inspection to confirm if you have bed bugs or not. Then they’ll use a combination of heat treatments and pesticide sprays to rid your home of the bugs.

There is a third way though that is just as effective, and won’t involve you spending upwards of $500 for an exterminator.

Enter SayByeBugs

SayByeBugs bed bug formula kills the pests almost instantly, including their eggs. The water based spray is odor free and doesn’t stain household surfaces either, so you won’t have to throw out any of your clothes after treatment.

For the formula to be effective you should spray all the surfaces in my house that the bugs may have come into contact with. This includes the bed sheets, the bed frame, the couch and curtains. Don’t forget your car seats either, these bugs make great unwelcome travel companions!

If you have dogs or cats in your house, the spray is pet-friendly. Plus bed bugs generally don’t feed on animals – but if you want to be extra careful so you should spray their bedding down anyway.

Going to sleep that first night can be nerve-wracking. After all, bed bug eggs are barely visible to the naked eye, but once you wake up in the morning without any new bites you’ll know you’re in the clear.

The spray bottles came in a pack of 6, so you can take a bottle with you on the road for business or just on you next vacation. The unique formula allows to the sprays to have no expiration dates, so you can keep them in the closet until next time (which is hopefully never). There’s also a 90 day money back guarantee if you’re not completely satisfied with the product.

Thanks to SayByeBugs, you can rid yourselves of bed bugs while saving hundreds of dollars by not having to call an exterminator.

See just how quickly it kills bed bugs:

So if you happen to fall into the predicament I did, consider SayByeBugs for a cheaper yet highly effective alternative to professional treatment.

What is the main ingredient in this product?

  • BedBugGuide

    Hello Timmy,
The spray uses a highly effective water based formula (you can check SayByeBugs website for full ingredient list) that violently reacts with bed bug’s exoskeleton and exterminates them on contact.

How do I know if I my bed has bedbugs?

  • BedBugGuide

    Isabelle,

If you’d uncover your bed lining you could find their nesting grounds filled with excrement or even find a few live ones (adult females lay hundreds of eggs in their short lifetimes). You will know you’ve been bitten by a bed bug if you have several red itchy spots that are often spaced in lines. Most common place for bed bugs to bite are arms and shoulders. You might also find blood stains on your bed and your sheets. Finding dark spots or skin from their shedding is a sure sign too. Good luck!

I’m freaking out! I only found 1 but I’m going crazy up all night splashing cold water on my neck and arms. I swear these things are crawling on me at all times. My questions is my pets sleep with me and I don’t know if they are suffering as well. Will this product hurt them if licked. And are any other bugs affected buy the product!

  • BedBugGuide

Hello Lynn, bed bugs typically don’t feed on pets and prefer humans. Spray is completely pet safe and since it’s water based with safe ingredients it’s also not toxic if your pet happens to lick it. Spray exterminates bed bugs but also works on fleas and other pests.

  • Ryan Haley Bell

Very helpful thank you! We have had these pests for almost a year trying everything we could. Not fun when you’re big and pregnant and want to sleep. I unfortunately had to bring my brand new baby home to a buggy apartment…. we moved two days ago and got rid of the couch and bed. Washed and dried every piece of clothing and then sprayed the clothes with this spray. I haven’t seen a single bug or had any bites. And I’m really glad this spray is safe for my daughter and my pet

Hello Ryan, thanks so much for your kind review. We’re really happy SayByeBugs spray worked for you!
